I Was Not Kidnapped by Aliens

I am not this guy..

ID4

not me... i swear

It has been too long!  So much has happened since my last post, way back in NOVEMBER! Seriously fail has spread around because of that.

1.  Vegas was incredible!  The weather was perfect.  The sights were amazing.  Running up and down Las Vegas Blvd. was beyond words.  Being there with all my Team Challenge crew is an experience I can never forget; a great bunch of people all coming together for a great cause and I cannot be more proud to be a part of Team Challenge North Texas.

2. I was lucky to receive a promotion at work and now am in Dallas! I still live in Keller, but I hope to change that before too long.  I cant believe its taken me this long to get to D-town; there is so much to do and see there, I am stoked to be living there too

3. The Crohn’s has no really cooperated since coming back from Vegas.  The doctors all highly suggested I take a break from running while I get my iron and blood levels back up to normal.  I was hoping to run either the cowtown or Rock ‘n Roll Dallas, but now either will happen.  I’m hopeful this get me gassed up and I can get back out there real soon.

I think they should make nicotine patches that release iron; pfizer, GSK– get on that

Warrior Dash, Vegas.. General Awesomeness

Wow!  It certainly has been awhile since my last legit post, sorry about that!  First off, the VEGAS half-marathon with Team Challenge is just over 2 weeks away!  So much dedication and hard work to make sure I was in good health and our Team Challenge group was ready for the experience, but we are ready for it!

I have had some ups and downs in my health, namely the iron-deficent anemia. The preferred type of iron the doctors have given me is now not being accepted by my body.  I had a very difficult time breathing, my skin turned red, so the doctors have decided to use another type of iron.  This new iron is given in smaller doses, but more often; the plus side is I don’t have to take the pre-meds so far.  I long for the day where I can go through one treatment a year and it last through my training, races, and active life.

If you look a few posts back, I was in the hospital getting iron treatments and blood transfusions.  From that little event, I came to the realization of what I want to do with my life.  There are numerous tests and biopsys to help in the diagnosis and assessment of Crohn’s & UC, but not an accurate method of assessing how bad the disease is affecting the body both inside the organs as well as the outside.  So I have begun the classes to addmittance into Radiology where I one day hope to develop such a method for Crohn’s & UC patients.  Hopefully these advancements will pave the way to new and cutting-edge techniques so a cure can be found.

This weekend I am running the Warrior Dash in Austin, TX.  A few Team Challenge people will be traveling down and my cousin is running it as well!  Expect some crazy awesome photos, and if I see you there, you’re getting a giant mud hug. I am personally excited about running through fire!

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and I am a tad disappointed by it.  In all my iron treatments, I have developed an inability to taste most foods.  Fort the most part, I can taste fruit and chocolate… I can’t complain about that combination, but it’s Thanksgiving, and I like that holiday.  Also, with the Crohn’s, it has not allowed me to enjoy any holiday meal for a very long time.. I’m pretty much hoping God gives my tastebuds a good swift kick so they’ll start working again.  With this new iron, I have noticed that I can taste cinnamon again!!

Finally… VEGAS!! December 3rd, I will be flying in right after work, and its non-stop awesomeness until the following Monday night.  I am beyond excited.  Staying at the Mandalay Bay and the start and finish line is right outside the front doors..  that means SLEEPING IN!

More to come soon!

Tour de Fleurs

Yesterday some of us participants of Team Challenge: North Texas, competed in the Tour de Fleurs 10k & 20k at White Rock Lake, and we all did amazing!

Starting and finishing at the Dallas Arboretum, we each had a great run through the WRL area and had a blast listening to Fast Lane after the race. I am very proud of all my Team Challenge participants and we are steadily achieving our goals of raising donations to find a cure to Crohn’s disease & UC. Take a moment and donate today; over 80% of every dollar donated directly funds research for a cure and patient support programs while the cure is being sought. Once you have donated, pass this along to all your friends/family/coworkers and encourage them to join you! Together, we can put an end to Crohn’s disease & UC for everyone
